On App Launchers

This was a reply I emailed to Jack Baty in response to his recent post about Mac app launchers:

Hi Jack,

I rolled with Alfred for a long time, but to be honest I didn’t use most of its features, and eventually Spotlight got good enough that I decided to roll with that.

I also tried Raycast when it first came out. It’s prettier than Alfred and undeniably powerful, but frankly it’s overkill for me.

Thankfully I also have Keyboard Maestro, which I find MUCH more useful day-to-day and comes with a clipboard manager built-in. Combined with Hazel on the file-management side, that’s most of my productivity needs sorted.

Yes, Spotlight can be sluggish at times, but I can live with that.

Alan
