There Is A Person On The Other End Of The Words You Read
Twenty years ago people were talking on the web about how we need to be better; to be kinder; to remember that there is a person on the other end of the words you read.
It was a problem then. It is a problem now. This is about the truth of our species, and we’ve only just begun at this scale.
This has been a problem for even longer — right back to the very earliest online services of the late 70s and early 80s.
I’ve no idea what the solution is, but it would definitely require starting over with a system that doesn’t reward outrage, and treats people as people rather than data points.
