Semi-Online
I mentioned a few months ago on the blog that I’m trying out Mastodon once more. While it’s much improved since I last ventured onto the Fediverse, I’ve decided that it’s not something that I’ll be using heavily. That’s not for lack of interesting things, and people, to follow on there. In fact, that’s the problem — there are too many things on there.
So I’ve scaled back my involvement to following a few accounts via RSS feeds, plus a couple of hashtags via my chosen instance of social.lol. That gives me a manageable level of daily posts that mostly spark joy.
I may occasionally pop into the browser UI of my chosen instance to respond to something or boost a post, but that will probably be my sum contribution for the forseeable future.
I’ve decided that I’m perfectly happy to be semi-online, as it were. I keep a private journal to record my thoughts, hopes and achievements, and very occasionally I may share something from there to here. But I no longer feel a need to be publicly online in the way that most social media encourages, or even semi-privately online in the way that I used to on Facebook in the past. With that said, I will try to post here a bit more regularly, if only as a means to expand on ideas that I’ve had and share things that have chimed with me.
