Life In The Old Camera Yet
Today I powered up my old Canon PowerShot G9 for the first time in several years to see how it’s faring.
There’s one dead pixel on the back display, and there’s a slight delay in photo capture, but otherwise it seems to be in good shape internally. The exterior is showing the wear & tear of years of photography, and I should try and remove some dust build-up using compressed air, but I’m pretty happy with how it’s holding up.
These days, when I need to take a photo of something I’ll reach for my iPhone. But for photography for its own sake, there’s still a nice feeling about holding a camera in your hands.
It was nice and sunny this afternoon, so I took some snaps in the garden.
The 8GB SD card inside the camera may be the cause of the photo capture delay — it has been used quite a bit, and even after a low-level format that lag persists. An added wrinkle is that I had to wiggle it a bit in the SD slot at the back of my 2017 iMac before it was registered and mounted. I’ll see if I can get a newer memory card to test with the camera.
I think it’s time I started getting out and doing photography trips again. The exercise will do me good, and I want to make good use of the G9 for as long as it still works.
