The Bookening
We got a surprise last week — the double-glazing replacement work that we were told wouldn’t be scheduled until end of September at the earliest (due to work backlog) has now been brought forward to next Monday.
That means three upstairs rooms need to be partially cleared and covered up so the fitters can do their work.
As part of that, I need to clear my bookshelves and move one set of shelves out, then move my computer, peripherals and the desk that houses them to another room too.
My sister has provided boxes for packing the books into, and I need every one of them! I’m cursing myself for buying several large heavy books 20-30 years ago. That’s almost done, tomorrow we’ll do the final push to get all the rooms ready.
It’s a couple of days of major disruption — not great for someone who’s autistic — but it should be worth it in the long run, particularly for our energy bill.
Unfortunately, the fun doesn’t end there. I then need to go through my books and decide which ones I still need and which can either be sold or donated. Some of them probably have sufficient value to justify finding buyers for them, then working out how to deliver them. More than a few were impulse buys that I never got around to reading. Not really looking forward to that, but it needs doing as my room is in need of redecorating and a lot of decluttering will need to happen before that can be done.
