iCloud Email Custom Domains – Is There a Catch?

I’m thinking about upgrading to iCloud+ and making use of iCloud Email custom domains. My research thus far suggests no obvious downsides other than only three aliases per domain, which I can live with. But I’ve no idea how well iCloud Email works generally, as I’ve not used it in ages. (I’ve been using Fastmail for all my email needs since 2013.)
