I feel Brent Simmon’s pain. I half-joke about being a ‘recovering tech-support / sysadmin’ but the truth is that the only change has been a decrease in my workload plus my patience.
The sad fact is that, if anything, the complexity of the technology that we have sat around our homes and offices is matched by the complexity of the code and protocols underpinning them all, and both have increased exponentially. And developers and engineers are pretty much expected to train themselves. No wonder it’s such a headache when things go wrong.
