Going back to Firefox

I’ve been using Safari as my primary browser on the Mac for a couple of years, and for the most part I’ve been happy with it. But with the changes Apple have made to browser extension support, the number of extra apps I’d installed to block ads, trackers and other annoyances was getting ridiculous. Yes, there’s strong integration with macOS and my other apps, such as Bear and DEVONthink. But the flipside is that the options for ad-blocking and other enhancements has been greatly reduced. And I’m uncomfortable with the facts that many of those are owned by firms involved in online advertising.

So I’ve decided to switch back to Mozilla Firefox and try using that as my primary browser. While it’s not without its faults, I’m a lot more comfortable with its approach to privacy and browser customisation. It has come along in leaps and bounds over the last few years in terms of performance, too.

(I also have Vivaldi installed on my Mac, mainly so I have a Chromium-based browser for testing that isn’t tied to Google, or Microsoft for that matter.)
