Privacy starts with you

Redefining ‘Privacy’ Can Give Users a False Impression of Secrecy

Sadly, if you really want privacy, you’ll have to do it yourself, by controlling as much as possible how much of your info gets online in the first place. Once it’s online, if someone wants to get it, they’ll find a way.

It doesn’t help, of course, that many websites that we choose to share our lives online only pay lip service to privacy, and some will ignore it where it interferes with their ability to make money. And don’t forget that the ISPs and telecoms companies have their snouts in the trough too.
