It turns out that the current WordPress theme I’m using — Velox — does have an option to not show author links. So I no longer need an extra plugin to hash the author username (and reduce the ability to guess the admin login).

  1. The best way that I have found of reducing malicious login attempts is hiding the wp-admin page.

I use the WPS Hide Login plugin. It’s free, and lets you login through a URL of your choice. So instead of going to ‘jamiesnotes.com/wp-admin/’, I instead go to ‘jamiesnotes.com/my-secret-login/’.
